Ignis
Ashen, our world once was.
Darker than the universe above.
At night, our kind huddled in fear, praying to the stars,
Scavenging for scraps during the day to survive.
Meek animals, primates, we were few,
No better than the ones that we cage in exhibits now.
Until we stumbled upon you,
Who would grant us the greatest power throughout.
No more would we wield clubs, but rather,
An ancient force, with no equal.
A force capable of creating ash from matter,
That would uplift us as a people.
With you, we achieved new way of living,
Scaring off predators with dances of your form and heat,
Sealing wounds we previously couldn’t treat,
To granting us warmth, a pleasure oh so fulfilling,
From your power, we would create like never before,
Bending metals, previously unmovable, to our will,
Designing them into blades capable of cutting all,
To roaring, wrathful machines of war.
To this very day, in a world dominated by tools akin to magic,
Where our constructs scrape the very heavens themselves,
We still rely upon you, Fire, oh so enigmatic.
And we shall thank you forevermore,
For only through thy willingness to lend your strength,
We were able to go through this world and explore,
The source of our immense might and wealth.
